Part performance, part lecture, PSICHE MEDITERRANEA weaves together spoken word, dramatic interpretation and live music to reveal the timeless power of the myth of Cupid and Psyche, often regarded as one of the most beautiful stories ever told.
Far more than a simple tale, it unfolds as a profound meditation on the human condition—an image of the cosmos and the soul, reflecting the destiny of the individual while resonating with the philosophical thought of the ancient world.
Emanuele Trevi, acclaimed writer, literary critic and recipient of the 2021 Premio Strega, joins Valter Malosti—director, actor and visual artist—to bring the story of Cupid and Psyche to life, revealing its deepest and most universal meanings.
Although immortalised by Apuleius in The Golden Ass, the narrative draws upon a much older oral tradition that travelled from the ancient East along the routes of the Mediterranean, evolving and renewing itself as it passed from voice to voice.
Andrea Cauduro's live music accompanies and enriches the performance, creating an evocative soundscape that engages in constant
dialogue with the spoken word, heightening its emotional resonance and immersing the audience in the unfolding narrative.
The staged readings shape the rhythm of the performance, giving voice and presence to its characters while restoring to the stage the
enduring imaginative power of myth.
This event forms part of the Festival del Mediterraneo Treccani 2026, presented by Fondazione Treccani Cultura ETS, which brings to Lecce a programme of lectures, readings and performances exploring the Mediterranean as a living space of memory, cultural heritage and future visions.
The programme is presented within the broader framework of the Festival Treccani della Lingua Italiana, taking place in Lecce from 8 to 10 May 2026, creating a rich cultural dialogue that places language, myth and storytelling at the heart of contemporary reflection.
This event forms part of Armonie del Mediterraneo – Viaggi, Miti e Ritorni, conceived and presented by the Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Tourism under the National Tourism Fund (FUNT) – 2025 Current Expenditure Programme (CUP F89I25002020001).
