Inspired by Book VIII of Ovid's Metamorphoses, where human ingenuity dares to reach the heavens and desire challenges its own limits, DEDALO E ICARO, OLTRE IL VOLO is a powerful new production that bridges myth and the contemporary world.

The performance reimagines the story of Daedalus and Icarus to explore what it means to exist in a society that constantly observes and judges, yet so often fails truly to see.

At its heart is the relationship between a parent and a child, separated by an inability to communicate within a space that becomes at once a psychological, emotional and social labyrinth. Between them lies a distance that is generational, emotional and profoundly human.

The production examines themes of fluid identity, the gaze of society and the search for recognition, while portraying two lonely souls striving to find one another without ever fully understanding each other.

Daedalus' wings are more than a remarkable invention: they embody the longing to transcend imposed limits and escape the definitions that confine us. Icarus is more than the young man who falls: he is the one who dares to become someone else, searching for an authentic sense of self.

Icarus pushes forward, breaks boundaries and crosses thresholds. Daedalus builds, measures and restrains. Yet the sun still burns. Flight therefore becomes inevitable, and the fall itself becomes a moment of revelation.

Harmonies on Stage | MITIKA – Teatro e Mito nella contemporaneità

The World Première of DEDALO E ICARO, OLTRE IL VOLO forms part of MITIKA – Teatro e Mito nella contemporaneità, the Festival's theatre programme within Harmonies on Stage, presented by Associazione Culturale Aletheia Teatro under the artistic direction of Carla Guido.

The programme also features AGAMENNONE and CIRCE: LE ORIGINI—three productions that restore the enduring relevance of classical myth, transforming it into a living language through which to interpret the contemporary world. Icarus and Daedalus, Agamemnon and Circe transcend time to engage once again with the present, embodying enduring tensions between the individual and society, destiny and free will, vulnerability and redemption.

This performance forms part of Armonie del Mediterraneo – Viaggi, Miti e Ritorni, conceived and presented by the Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Tourism under the National Tourism Fund (FUNT) – 2025 Current Expenditure Programme (CUP F89I25002020001).
