FESTIVAL HARMONIES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN – JOURNEYS, MYTHS AND RETURNS
Lecce, April 28 – June 7, 2025
“Harmonies of the Mediterranean – Journeys, Myths and Returns” returns to Lecce as a dynamic and multidisciplinary cultural project, offering a narrative in motion that explores stories, sounds, and memories across the Mediterranean. The Festival reinterprets the region as a space of encounters, departures, and returns—a living crossroads of identities and cultures in dialogue.
Promoted by the Euromediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecce, and supported by the Italian Ministry of Tourism through the National Tourism Fund (FUNT 2025 – current expenditure, CUP F89I25002020001), the Festival confirms its role as a key platform for cultural exchange and artistic production.
Following its 2025 debut, which explored Sounds, Arts and Cultures in Dialogue, this year’s edition focuses on Journeys, Myths and Returns, evoking the visible and invisible routes that have shaped the Mediterranean over centuries as a shared space of narratives and transformations. From April 28 to June 7, the program unfolds through three interconnected thematic strands—performance, dialogue, and music—creating a unified yet plural storytelling experience.
Harmonies on Stage presents the MITIKA series at Teatro Paisiello (9:00 PM), featuring three performances inspired by myth in a contemporary key: the world premiere of “Daedalus and Icarus, Beyond the Flight” (April 28), followed by “Agamemnon” (May 17) and “Circe: The Origins” (May 21). These iconic figures become mirrors of the human condition, exploring the tension between departure and return, individual destiny and collective responsibility.
Harmonies in Dialogue hosts the Treccani Mediterranean Festival 2026 with two events combining literature, myth, and memory. On May 9 (9:00 PM, Teatro Paisiello), “Mediterranean Psyche”—with Emanuele Trevi and Valter Malosti—brings to life the myth of Cupid and Psyche through an evocative interplay of words and live music. On May 10 (7:00 PM, Agostiniani Complex), Emanuela Bufacchi presents “Mediterranean: A Sea of Women Between Transitions and Narratives”, highlighting the role of women in shaping Mediterranean history.
Harmonies in Music transforms Teatro Apollo into a vibrant port of sounds. The journey begins on May 6 with BandAdriatica’s Nostos – 20th Anniversary Concert, celebrating two decades of musical and cultural crossings across Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Albania, and Croatia. The program continues on May 16 with Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and CGS 50 – The Myth (8:45 PM), marking fifty years of tradition and innovation, and on May 24 (8:30 PM) with Fisarmoniche One Night – Sounds from the Mediterranean, dedicated to the accordion as a symbol of cultural exchange.
The Festival concludes on June 7 (8:30 PM) with the Mediterranean Ensemble “Tito Schipa” of the Lecce Conservatory, presenting “Routes of the Mediterranean”, a musical journey across genres and traditions.
Bringing together music, theatre, talks, and participatory experiences, the Festival offers an integrated cultural narrative where each event becomes both a point of arrival and a new departure. Lecce itself is reimagined as a symbolic harbor—where ancient heritage meets contemporary expression—through iconic venues such as Teatro Apollo, Teatro Paisiello, and the Agostiniani Complex.
In a time marked by global tensions, Harmonies of the Mediterranean reclaims the sea as a space of connection rather than division: a place where dialogue, creativity, and shared cultural heritage generate new perspectives and collective meaning.
