Starting tomorrow, October 17, Piazza Mazzini will host for the first time the “Mobile Market of Tunisian Handicrafts”, an event that will bring to the heart of Lecce the colors, shapes, and traditions of Tunisian craftsmanship.
The initiative is organized by the Municipality of Lecce, in collaboration with the National Office of Tunisian Handicrafts (Onat) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido).
The event, which will continue until October 26, is part of the activities of the “Armonie del Mediterraneo” Festival.
The event is part of the Armonie del Mediterraneo Festival and aims to showcase the richness, creativity, and authenticity of Tunisian craftsmanship through exhibitions and live demonstrations by artisans. It represents a new opportunity for friendship and cooperation between Tunisia and Italy, promoting cultural and economic exchange across the Mediterranean.
Armonie del Mediterraneo is conceived as a celebration of peace, beginning with cultural dialogue as a foundation for understanding among peoples. Lecce, a city with a long history of exchange and hospitality, is the ideal place to strengthen the sense of belonging to the Euro-Mediterranean community.
The Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Lecce and Mayor Adriana Poli Bortone, with the scientific and organizational support of the Agenzia per il Patrimonio Culturale Euromediterraneo, took place in July with a wide program of meetings, performances, and cultural initiatives. The activities brought together voices and traditions from across the Mediterranean and involved a broad audience of residents, students, visitors, and scholars, with particular attention to inclusion and community participation.
Partners included Fondazione Treccani Cultura, Fondazione CMCC, the University of Salento, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Now, with Onat and Unido, Armonie del Mediterraneo continues with the Mobile Market of Tunisian Handicrafts, transforming Piazza Mazzini into a welcoming space of colors, traditions, and creativity. Twenty-four pavilions will display unique handmade works such as carved olive wood, refined ceramics, traditional textiles, carpets, and original artistic creations.
The market will be open daily from October 17 to 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
