Stories, voices and women's narratives take centre stage in the latest event of Armonie del Mediterraneo – Viaggi, Miti e Ritorni.
Today, Sunday 10 May, at 7.00 p.m., the Complesso degli Agostiniani in Lecce will host Mediterraneo: un mare di donne tra passaggi e narrazioni, a lecture by Emanuela Bufacchi, Professor of Italian Literature at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples and Scientific Adviser to the Biographical and Thematic Dictionary of Women in Italy.
The event will be enriched by readings performed by actress Veronica Mele, who will guide the audience through the works, memories and literary worlds of Matilde Serao, Grazia Deledda, Anna Maria Ortese, Elsa Morante and Fausta Cialente. Their stories trace an evocative journey from Naples to Sardinia, from the islands of the Mediterranean to Alexandria in Egypt, weaving together places, identities and women's experiences across the Mediterranean.
The lecture offers a reflection on the Mediterranean as a space of encounters, crossings, arrivals and shared narratives, highlighting the central role of women's voices and their journeys through cultures, collective memory and the diverse landscapes of the sea.
Together with yesterday's event, Psiche Mediterranea, held at Teatro Paisiello in Lecce and featuring Emanuele Trevi and Valter Malosti, accompanied by live music by Andrea Cauduro, this special evening forms part of a wider dialogue with the Festival Treccani della Lingua Italiana. Together, the two events broaden the Festival's cultural programme, bringing stories, myths and literary narratives back to the heart of a Mediterranean that continues to connect peoples, cultures and generations.
FESTIVAL DEL MEDITERRANEO TRECCANI 2026, curated by Fondazione Treccani Cultura ETS, forms part of the 9th Festival Treccani della Lingua Italiana, taking place in Lecce from 8 to 10 May 2026 and dedicated this year to the theme of "dialogue".
The initiative is included in the programme of Armonie del Mediterraneo – Viaggi, Miti e Ritorni, conceived and promoted by the Euromediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency in partnership with the Municipality of Lecce, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Tourism through the National Tourism Fund (FUNT) – Current Expenditure Programme 2025 (CUP F89I25002020001).
Admission is free, subject to venue capacity.
