The CMCC Foundation – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change is an internationally recognized reference point for climate science research, with a specific focus on the Mediterranean region, one of the areas most exposed and vulnerable to climate change. CMCC brings together multidisciplinary expertise to study the environmental, social, and economic impacts of climate change, developing innovative solutions to promote sustainability and resilience for Mediterranean communities and ecosystems.
As part of the Armonie del Mediterraneo festival, CMCC is organizing three events designed to engage the public in understanding climate challenges and opportunities for sustainable innovation in the region:
July 17, 2025 – 7:00 PM – Mediterranean Climate: Innovation and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future
Venue: CMCC Foundation, Via Marco Biagi 5, Lecce
A conference bringing together scientists, experts, and professionals to explore how the Mediterranean—an emblem of biodiversity and culture—is at the heart of major climate transformations. The event will present the latest scientific findings, the impacts on society and the local economy, and the most effective strategies for adaptation and mitigation to build a more sustainable future.
July 18, 2025 – 7:00 PM – Mediterranean Aperitivo: The Sea Ahead
Venue: Bar Astoria, Porta San Biagio, Lecce
An informal talk with CMCC researchers focused on the Mediterranean Sea and its waters, now facing warming, acidification, and other environmental threats. The discussion will highlight the sea’s role as a crossroads of cultures, trade routes, and natural resources, and explore how climate change is affecting navigation, local economies, and the lives of coastal communities.
July 19, 2025 – 7:00 PM – Mediterranean Aperitivo: Food and Fire in the Mediterranean Region
Venue: Il Barrito, Via Francesco De Mura 67, Lecce
This event is dedicated to the Mediterranean’s agri-food and forest heritage—two key elements of local culture that are increasingly threatened by climate change. CMCC experts will engage the public in a conversation about how traditional foods, crops, and forests are being affected, and why it is essential to protect these cultural and environmental assets through sustainable practices.
These events are part of the broader Armonie del Mediterraneo festival, an international cultural event held in Lecce, promoted by the Municipality of Lecce with the scientific and organizational support of the Agency for the Euromediterranean Cultural Heritage, which has long been committed to fostering intercultural dialogue and the valorization of shared heritage.
From July 4 to 20, 2025, Lecce will transform into a vibrant open-air stage, hosting music, theatre, talks, performances, and moments of reflection—all inspired by the cultural, historical, and natural wealth that defines the Mediterranean.
The festival unfolds through a wide range of languages and disciplines—from music to literature, theatre to visual arts, science to gastronomy—and takes place in the historic center, university spaces, neighborhoods, and informal venues across the city. Its aim is to engage a diverse and inclusive audience: young people, families, tourists, scholars, and citizens alike, fostering active participation from both local and international communities. The initiative is part of the official summer events program of the Municipality of Lecce for 2025, helping to highlight the region through high-quality yet accessible cultural experiences that combine knowledge, tradition, and innovation.
Armonie del Mediterraneo thus represents a unique opportunity to reflect, connect, and share stories, cultures, and visions of a Mediterranean that is alive, dynamic, and ready to face the future with awareness and hope.
