On Friday, Jan. 19, the spotlight will be turned on the exhibition Creatures of Sand, the final chapter of the articulated "artistic determination" project of the same name, to promote gender equality, violated rights and the empowerment of Mediterranean women, twelve years after the Arab springs.

Funded by the Apulia Region - Department of Welfare, with state resources from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies," on the Puglia Capitale sociale 3.0. call, CREATURE DI SBBIA, is a project promoted by Agenzia per il Patrimonio Culturale Euromediterraneo, in collaboration Associazione Positivo Diretto, Polo Bibliouseale di Lecce,Comune di Lecce, and Associazione N.O.I Salento .

The project entered the very heart of its activities last May with an unprecedented and intense artist residency on 'gender equality and the violated rights of women, twelve years after the "Arab Spring" and aimed at bringing to fruition a process of both artistic and social awareness and education on human rights through art, represented by four female artists of Arab and Middle Eastern origin who reside in Italy for study or work reasons and other female peers of similar origin, culture and religion, residing in Lecce and active in the field of intercultural mediation.

The group has been the protagonist of intense in-depth and creative activities and moments open to the entire community, addressing areas with which fiction, painting, design, photography, film, and the visual arts interpret the themes of oppression and violence against women. There was no shortage of cross-cultural stimuli of a sociological, anthropological, and social nature. To crown that experience, the four young women artists-two Iranian, one Tunisian, one Moroccan-are now the protagonists of a unique Exhibition that brings to the public personal experiences and unprecedented artistic universes.

According to the curators of the exhibition, Andrea Laudisa and Alice Caracciolo,

The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge from Jan. 19 to Feb. 9, takes visitors through a highly immersive and emotionally impactful experience, with video and sound installations, and a plurality of appeals through the field play of multiple media and personal stories that manage to touch everyone. <"God created human beings from a single person or soul," recites a verse from the Quran found in a central location of one of the installations; a powerful call for unity against gender-based violence, emphasizing that every individual, regardless of gender, is an essential part of the same universal soul.>
